APRIL In aid of the
Yasin Foundation, Noel O’
Grady and Irish musicians
Ronan Browne, Des Geraghty and Martin Doyle, joined
acclaimed Pakistani ghazal singer, Tina Sani and
musicians, in a unique intercultural event of poetry, music,
and performance, titled From Sligo to Sialkot,
which centred on the poetry of W.B. Yeats and
Mohammed Iqbal, Irish and Pakistani national poets.
Shortly after Pakistan’s devastating earthquake in
2005, Tina Sani, on encountering a child who had been
orphaned, composed a beautiful bilingual song – in Urdu and
English - called I know, and has asked Noel to
record it with her.
JUNE
On Bloomsday, 16th June, Noel
was a guest singer in Meeting House Square, Dublin, in
a wonderful celebration of James Joyce and his works.
Later that evening he performed in the Teachers’ Club
in Michael Shanley’s production, Clicking on
Joyce, singing such songs as The Lass of Aughrim
from John Huston’s The Dead, and
M’appari, used by Joyce in both Ulysses
and Finnegans Wake.
SEPTEMBER
On Friday, 25th September, Noel will
perform in the Teachers’ Club, 36 Parnell Square, Dublin
– where James Joyce received singing lessons - with
other artistes as part of Culture Night 2009,
which is now in its fourth year. On this evening, 120 arts and
cultural organisations will offer other such free events,
tours, talks and performances in Dublin and several venues
around the country. Over 100,000 enjoyed last years
Culture Night. Noel will include songs from the works
of Joyce, Yeats, Patrick Kavanagh, and John B.
Keane.
OCTOBER
On Monday,
19 October,
Noel will perform songs from James Joyce’s works in an
evening with Terence Killeen (journalist and author of
Joyce Unbound), who will give a talk titled
The Joyce of Music, in the
James Joyce Center,
35 North Georges Street, Dublin.
NOVEMBER
Noel and other artistes will perform
at the Sugar Club in aid of
Aisling Group
International
at 8 pmSunday,
9th
November. The artistes will include:
Singer/actor Susannah De Wrixon, Actor/author Mannix Flynn, Comedienne/actor Anne Gildea, Singer/composer/musician/Newstalk presenter Eamon Keane, and singer Noel O Grady. Master of ceremonies will be Seamus Hosey. A warm, eclectic, wonderful evening is assured. See you there.

At Christmas, Noel will join
Colm Stride O'Brien, Ireland’s leading ragtime
pianist, in their annual concerts,
From Rag to Trad At Christmastide, in
Bewley’s Café Theatre, on Grafton Street at 8 pm Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th
December.
Colm will also be performing in the John
Field Room in the National Concert Hall at
lunchtime,1 pm on Friday, 13th November.
These are usually sold out in
advance so early booking is advised.
Noel is currently
choosing songs for his next album. If you have any interesting
